Leslie J. King

Background

Leslie King was born on November 10, 1934, in Christchurch, New Zealand. He is a son of Lawrence Charles and Phyllis Ivy (Walter) King.

Education

Leslie King studied at the University of Canterbury where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1955 and a Master of Arts degree in 1957. He also attended the University of Iowa and received a Doctor of Philosophy degree in 1960.

Career

Leslie King started his career as a lecturer in geography at the University of Canterbury in 1960. In 1962 he became an assistant professor of geography at McGill University and held this post until 1964. He also worked as a professor of geography at Ohio State University from 1964 to 1970. In 1970, King took up a post of a professor of geography at McMaster University. He held a post of Dean of School of Graduate Studies from 1973 to 1979.

Leslie King published his first book, Statistical Analysis in Geography, in 1969. He also wrote such books as Statistical Analysis in Geography and Central Place Theory. He was an editor of Readings in Economic Geography: The Location of Economic Activity, that was published in 1968.

Achievements

• Leslie King is an American writer and educator who is famous for his books Statistical Analysis in Geography and Central Place Theory. He received the Distinguished Service Award in 1976 and the Queen's Silver Jubilee Medal in 1977.
