Liamara Barros works as a partner at NORONHA-ADVOGADOS, a firm known in English as Noronha Advogados. The firm was founded in 1978 in São Paulo, Brazil, during the period of military rule, and its own account describes early growth as difficult to sustain under that government. It later opened offices in Argentina, China, Portugal, the United Kingdom and the United States, presenting itself as the only law firm based in a developing country with a global presence.
The firm's London presence was established in 1987, a decision its partners made to support Brazilian companies seeking access to international financial markets. Its China office opened in 2000, which the firm describes as one of the earliest for a law firm from outside that country.
Barros's documented practice areas include general practice, banking and financial law, commercial law, civil law, taxation, corporate law, antitrust law and labor law. Banking and financial law concerns lending, financial institutions and capital transactions, antitrust law regulates competition between businesses, and labor law governs employment relationships.
