Linda McCracken is the adult services manager and collection development officer at Yakima Valley Regional Library. She began her career there in 1974 as a library assistant becoming a supervisor in the reserve department in 1981. In ten years, she began working as an adult services manager at the Yakima Valley Regional Library System. In 2000-2002 she was also president of Yakima Literacy Coalition.
As funding became more critical for the library, Linda and her colleagues began to look for new ways to promote their services to communities. One small article in an administrative journal led to a longer article in the U*N*A*B*A*S*H*E*D Librarian, which caught the eye of Robert Franklin at McFarland & Co. Publishing. He proposed a book and Linda began writing. As she wrote, she tried to keep in mind the audience that she was writing for, and the fact that they wanted the tone of the book to be casual and upbeat. That helped to focus and select the information that would be included. The result was the book, The Library Book Cart Precision Drill Team Manual, written with Lynne Zeiher (2002). It explains how to plan, equip, and train a successful library team.
McCracken is also known as a contributor to library journals.
