Simon was educated at the University of Pennsylvania, Harvard University and Yale University.
Simon worked for German producer Max Reinhardt in the 1920s and subsequently went with him to Hollywood. Simon later managed the Theater Guild in New York City and went on to become New Jersey’s director of the Works Progress Administration Federal Theater.
In addition, Simon served in the Army Special Services in World War II and worked for the Veteran’s Administration after the war; he was in charge of Veterans’ Hospital camp shows in New York City. He also worked as public relations director for the Actors Fund of America charity from 1965 to 1982.
