As a child, Lyudmila sang in the school choir. In Voronezh, she graduated from the Children's Music School in piano, then in 1979 from the preparatory division of the Leningrad Conservatory (now Saint Petersburg Conservatory), where her teacher was I.S. Gridchi. In 1984 she graduated from the vocal department of the Voronezh State Institute of Arts (teacher D.V. Gornova).
From 1976 till 1984 Marchenko Lyudmila was an actress and then a soloist of the Voronezh Opera and Ballet Theater.
