Malcolm was born in Ontario, Canada.
As an adult going back to school to get his Ph.D. Malcolm was the recipient of numerous awards and scholarships to help him finish his work on his thesis. These awards provided him the help he needed to accomplish his work.
In 2016 he received the Harrison-Thompson Bursary Trust for Academic Excellence, which was worth $5,000. In the same year, he was given the Dean of Graduate Studies Spring Research Fellowship, which was a $4,000 scholarship
The following year saw his largest award to date, that being the Ontario Graduate Scholarship Award. This award was worth $15,000 and helped him make ends meet while he conducted his research.
In 2018 he was awarded the Graduate Teaching Assistant Award for $1,000 and was also the recipient of the Distinguished Graduate Student Award.
Malcolm Matthews is honored and grateful to have received this financial assistance as he struggled to complete his doctoral thesis. Malcolm was able to successfully complete his thesis and successfully defended it in October of 2017. In May of 2018, he received his degree and is now a Ph.D.
Malcolm Matthews is a freelance editor who one day wants to make a living writing book. Though he plans to continue editing, his main goal is to write books and articles on autism, especially with respect to how it is portrayed in popular culture, which was the subject of his doctoral thesis.
With his focus now on his writing and his editing, Malcolm feels that his best years are still ahead of him. He hopes that more awards will follow as he continues to write about autism spectrum disorder, the topic that continues to remain his main focus.
He has written numerous articles on the topic and has plans to publish a book about autism one day. With a little luck, he will publish it from the South of France where he hopes to someday live with his wife.
