Mameve Medwed was born on August 9, 1964, in Bangor, Maine, United States. She is a daughter of Harry Stern, a lawyer, and Mimi Stern, a teacher.
Mameve Medwed received a Bachelor of Arts degree with honors from Simmons College (currently Simmons University). She has attended writing workshops at Brandeis University and Radcliffe College as well.
The start of Mameve Medwed’s career can be counted from her academic activity at the Cambridge Center for Adult Education which staff she joined in 1979 as an instructor for fiction writing. From 1986 to 1988, Medwed was a mentor for a master's degree in the fine arts program at Lesley University.
A year before the publication of her debut book, ‘Mail’, Medwed had worked as a Robert M. Gay Memorial Lecturer at her alma mater, Simmons University.
The first volume was followed by four more novels, including the recent one, a 2008 ‘Of Men and Their Mothers’.
Mameve Medwed has organized and continues to organize different writing workshops around the country. She has also read lectures and taken part in many teaching seminars, library panels, and book fairs.
Mameve Medwed is an accomplished author whose book ‘How Elizabeth Barrett Browning Saved My Life’ was marked by Massachusetts Book Honor Awards for Fiction in 2007. She has also been a finalist of the Massachusetts Artists Foundation Award.
Medwed has appeared in different media as a guest, including Maine Public Radio, The Voice of America, and other TV and radio programs. Writings by Medwed have been featured in several well-known periodicals, including The New York Times, Gourmet, Yankee, Redbook, Playgirl, The Boston Globe, Ascent, The Missouri Review, Confrontation, The Readerville Journal, Newsday, and The Washington Post.
