Mantle Fielding

Background

Mantle Fielding was born on September 30, 1865 in New York City, United States. He was a son of Mantle and Anna M. (Stone) Fielding.

Education

In 1883 Fielding graduated from Germantown Academy and studied architecture at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Career

Upon his return to Philadelphia, Mantle Fielding opened an architectural office in the city. In the following years Fielding carried on a general practice with the best known examples of his work including the Page Memorial Chapel in Oswego, New York, YMCA Building in Germantown, the Terry Office Building in Roanoke, Virginia, and residences in many different cities. He was also the author of a number of biographical sketches published in the Dictionary of American Painters, Sculptors and Engravers. For many years a resident of Germantown.

In 1898 Fielding married Amy Reeve Williams. They had two children, Richard M. and Frances.
