Margaret Williamson

Background

Margaret Williamson was born on December 6, 1947 in Ilford, Redbridge, United Kingdom, in the family of Jack Gifford and Winifred Williamson.

Education

Margaret received Bachelor of Arts (with honors) at Cambridge University in 1970. The she earned Master of Arts at University of Toronto in 1972, and Doctor of Philosophy at University of London in 1990.

Career

In 1979 - 1982 Margaret worked as a lecturer in classics in the University of Reading. Since 1989 she is the senior lecturer in classical studies in University of Surrey, St. Mary’s University College. And in 1990 - 1991 she was appointed a lecturer at Magdalen College in Oxford University. She also conducts researches on gender in archaic lyric, and on gender, collectivity, and the chorus.

Achievements

• Margaret is famous for her monograph "Sappho’s Immortal Daughters", written in 1995, and as an editor of "The Sacred and the Feminine in Ancient Greece."
