Mario Fortino Alfonso was born on August 12, 1911, in Santa Maria la Ribera, City of México.
He had several trades, from shoemaker to mandadero. In 1928 he joined the army, but then his father went to take him out because Mario was not of the statutory age (he was 16 years old). He chaired the National Association of Actors and was secretary of the Workers' Union of Film Production. Before being an actor he tried other professions: chemist, boxer and bullfighter. He began his career in the show in the late 1930s, hired to advertise trucks. His first film was made in 1936 "Do not fool yourself heart", without success. In 1939 he began to develop his character Cantinflas with the company POSA Films, in 1940 he came to stardom with the film "Ahí está el detalle". From 1940 to 1950 his success did not stop, in 1946 he left the Mexican film companies and signed with Columbia Pictures. In 1956 Holywood welcomes him with the film "Around the World in Eighty Days", after this success he continued making films in Spanish.
