(Ellingsen looks carefully at the many hundreds of often-c...)
Ellingsen looks carefully at the many hundreds of often-controversial declarations made since 1964 by a wide variety of churches on nine "cutting-edge" issues: racism, development, ecology, war and peace, marriage, abortion, genetic engineering, social justice, and socio-political ideologies.

(Reclaiming Our Roots, the most inclusive church history t...)
Reclaiming Our Roots, the most inclusive church history textbook on the market today pays special attention to such matters as Christianity in the southern hemisphere, Eastern Orthodoxy, the church among minority cultures in North America, and the role of women in church history. It includes not just names, dates, and events in church history, but also sophisticated theological analyses of the issues that have made history, making it useable as a text for both history of Christian thought as well as an introduction to church history courses.

(Inspired by the heritage of African-American churches, Ma...)
Inspired by the heritage of African-American churches, Mark Ellingsen has created innovative, visionary sermons on Old Testament texts from the Revised Common Lectionary. His messages reflect his unique vantage point as a Lutheran of Norwegian heritage teaching at a historically black seminary, and they are a model for anyone who wants to learn how to relate the Bible to the cutting-edge social issues of our day. Ellingsen suggests that many American Christians have abdicated their responsibility to advocate justice in our society or to talk about what the Gospel can do in our lives and society as a whole from Monday through Saturday.

(In an inclusive reading of Augustine, Mark Ellingsen reve...)
In an inclusive reading of Augustine, Mark Ellingsen reveals a patterned conceptual richness in Augustine's thought. The Richness of Augustine is a wonderful introduction and a rich ecumenical and historical resource. It is the first introduction that places in focus the significance of Augustine's African cultural and ethnic roots.

(Despite the results of the 2006 elections, the coalition ...)
Despite the results of the 2006 elections, the coalition between Conservative politics and American Christians remains a dominant force in setting the American socio-cultural and political agenda. Ellingsen argues that until this coalition is diminished we will remain a politically conservative nation to the detriment of the poor, the marginalized, the middle class, and nations around the world, as well as to the detriment of the spiritual life in America's churches!

(This volume is a unique interpretation of what Martin Lut...)
This volume is a unique interpretation of what Martin Luther contributes to renewed appreciation of Biblical diversity. The Church in the West is struggling. One reason behind this is that the prevailing models for Theology have imposed logical and modern ways of thinking about faith that renders theology academic, and therefore largely irrelevant for daily life.

“I have different motives for writing different books, but what they all have in common is my love for the church and for the intellectual stimulation and meaning that the study of theology has given my life. I write to try to share those passions and my excitement about these matters with others.''
“I continue to write in order to help people find meaning in life and to provide them with tools to think about life’s meaning. ''
