In 1980-1981 Martin Roberts was on a one-year sabbatical from Derby Lonsdale College; in the 1980s he was serving as a Photography Fellow (sponsored by the Arts Council of Great Britain) at Impressions Gallery in York, England, and at York University. Martin Roberts has been a lecturer at Derby since 1977. He also received major awards from the Arts Council of Great Britain in 1977 and 1975.
