Scholar. Studied under Yoshiyuki Okura and was appointed monjohakase (official in charge of literary affairs) and later was commissioned one of the compilers of Sandai Jitsuroku (a record ot the reigns of Emperors Seiwa, Yozei and Koko). Was considered the leading poet of his time.
