Education
In 1923 he graduated from Tohoku University.
Career
He became instructor of Tohoku University. Also in 1925 he was an appointed assistant professor and in 1938 - professor.
During this period Masao made studies on the gear wheel, and his extensive research on the process of manufacturing gear wheels was highly appreciated as making mass production of gear wheels possible.
In 1943 he was awarded the Asahi Cultural Prize for this research, and in 1953 - the prize of the Imperial Academy.
In 1954 Masao completed a new method "Nekkan Tenzo Ho" (Thermal Transformation Method) to mass-produce precision gear wheels, and this made him internationally famous.
For two years and a half from 1935 he visited Germany, Britain and America to study mechanism and mechanical dynamics and returned to Japan (1938).
He is the author of “Gear Wheel” and "The Basic of Japanese Technique”.
