He held the Second Senior Court Rank and the post of Gon-Dainagon (Vice-Minister). The collection of his poems is called Hekigyokushu. Together with Emperor Gokashiwabara's Hakugyokushii and Sanetaka Shoyoin's Sekigyokushii, it forms the Three Gyokushu, or Three Gems.
