Tamesuke no Fujiwara was born in 1263. He was the third son of Tameie and Abutsuni, noted authoress, he originated the Reizei family.

He was Gon Chunagon (Court secretary). He was dispossessed of his property which he had inherited from Tameie by an elder brother, born of Abutsum in her previous marriage. Abutsuni went to Kamakura to have the case solved by the Shogunate law court. Izayoi Nikki is supposed to have been written by her during her trip to Kamakura. The Shogunate court ruled in favor of Tamesuke.
