He attended Western Kentucky University where he met his wife, Lora Chaffins.
He played the teenaged Jack McCallister on Jack & Bobby, the younger Johnny Blaze in Ghost Rider, and Tyler Prince in Sydney White. He has one younger sibling, Zach. After graduation, Long moved to New York City where he worked as an actor throughout various theaters.
In 2004 he was cast as lead on the critically acclaimed but short-lived The World Bank drama series Jack & Bobby, and later starred in several television pilots and appeared in movies, including Ghost Rider and Sydney White.
Long played the lead role in short-lived American Broadcasting Company drama series The Deep End in 2010. He also had recurring role of Administrative Management College drama series Mad Men as Joey Baird, and in 2012 was cast in American Broadcasting Company pilot Gilded Lillys created and produced by Shonda Rhimes.
Rhimes later cast him in her medical drama Private Practice in recurring role as Doctor James Peterson. In 2013 Long was cast as lead in another American Broadcasting Company drama series Lucky 7.
He was also a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity.
