Michael Schreier received a diploma in Photographic Arts in 1971 from Ryerson Polytechnical Institute (now Ryerson University) in Toronto, Canada, and a Master of Fine Arts in 1975 from Concordia University, Montreal, Canada.
Michael Schreier was an assistant professor at the University of Ottawa (Canada), Visual Arts Department, since 1972. In the summer of 1979, he taught workshops at Banff Centre of Fine Arts in Banff, Canada. Since 1974 Michael Schreier has taken "family snapshots" of family ceremonials, using small-format transparencies printed in Cibachrome. Since 1976 Michael Schreier has shot "anonymous space, anonymous individuals, portraits in transition" in 8 x 10 and 11x14 Cibachrome exposed directly.
The photographer was a member of the Canada Council of the Arts Jury in 1975.
