Miriam Mindla Roshwald was born on December 23, 1925, in Warsaw, Second Polish Republic (present-day Warsaw, Poland). She was a daughter of Solomon Wyszynski, a businessman, and Mandzia (Friedmann) Wyszynski.

In this work, Miriam Roshwald examined the role of the nineteenth-century ghetto or shtetl through the eyes of three contemporaneous Jewish writers: Karl Emil Franzos (1848-1904), Sholom Aleichem (aka Sholom Rabinovitz, 1859-1916) and Shmuel Yosef Agnon (aka Samuel Josef Czaczkes, 1888-1970).

Miriam Mindla Roshwald was born on December 23, 1925, in Warsaw, Second Polish Republic (present-day Warsaw, Poland). She was a daughter of Solomon Wyszynski, a businessman, and Mandzia (Friedmann) Wyszynski.
In 1955, Miriam received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Then, she continued her education at the University of Minnesota in Saint Paul, graduating with a Master of Arts degree in 1959 and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in 1972.
In 1989-1990, Miriam held the post of a visiting associate professor of English literature at National Sun Yat-sen University in Taiwan. She also taught at the University of Minnesota Extension, the University of British Columbia and at other adult education institutes.
As for her writing career, Miriam authored such works, as "Moses, Leader, Prophet, Man: The Story of Moses and His Image Through the Ages" (1969) and "Ghetto, Shtetl, or Polis?: The Jewish Community in the Writings of Karl Emil Franzos, Sholom Aleichem and Shmuel Yosef Agnon" (1997). Also, she authored "The Stay" novel, which was never published.

1969Miriam married Mordecai Roshwald, an academic and writer, on August 25, 1945. Their marriage produced one child - Aviel Roshwald.
