Misao Tōjō was born in 1884 in Tokyo, Japan.
After graduating from Tokyo University (1910) with a degree in literature, was appointed professor first at Shizuoka Higher School, then Hiroshima Higher Normal School and since 1929 has been with Gakushuin University. Was once a member of the Ministry of Education's National Language Research Committee.
