Mitsujiro Ishii graduated from Kobe Higher Commercial School (1912) and Special Course of Tokyo Higher Commercial School (1914).
Mitsujiro Ishii served as chief of Traffic and Public Peace Sections of Metropolitan Police Board and later as chief of Secretariat and Foreign Affairs Sections of Governor-General of Formosa. He entered Asahi Shimbun and served successively as chief of accounting department, director of Business Division and senior managing director. Made official tour of Europe and America (from 1934 to 1936). Elected six times to House of Representatives (since 1946). Became Minister of Commerce and Industry in the first Yoshida Cabinet (1946). Meantime served as director of Nippon Koon Industrial Company, president of Asahi Motion Picture Production Company, Кoon Dengen (power supply) Company, and Nippon Kogei Shinko-kai (Art s and Crafts Promotion Association). Later held additional posts of director of Japan Broadcasting Corporation, Japan Athletic Association and Japan Motion Picture Association, chief director of Shimbun Kyodo Hambai Kumiai (United Newspaper Sales Association) and Japan Golf Association and councilor of Kokusaku Kenkyu-kai (National Policy Research Society). Served as president of Asahi Broadcasting Company, Ltd. (1951). Was appointed Vice-Premier (July 1957).
