Background
After seeing Itzhak Perlman on Sesame Street at the age of three, Lasko requested that her mother purchase her a violin. During her high school years, she performed with her father, accordionist and guitarist, Thomas Lasko, in the band Cafe Musette.
Education
Lasko attended the Berklee of Music, studying with Jamie Haddad, Rob Thomas and Matt Glaser. Upon her graduation in 2005, she moved to Charlottesville, Virginia where she began to teach and do session work. After college, Lasko spent some time playing in Virginia-based bluegrass bands and also began to collaborate with Berklee classmate and friend, Jay Pun.
Lasko and Pun soon formed their own band, moving far away from the bluegrass genre and focusing on original music that often references jazz, swing, world, funk, rock, and world elements.
Professionally they are known as Morwenna Lasko & Jay Pun and they occasionally perform as a quartet, adding drums and upright bass.
