Upon graduating English Literature Department of Tokyo University (1917) he joined the editorial staff of Mairnichi Shimbun (newspaper). After serving awhile at its European and American Section he was sent as a special correspondent to Europe and America. Later he was chief of its New York Bureau (1924) and then of its London Bureau (1928). He was elected director of the newspaper (1938) and thereafter was in turn managing director, chief leader writer, chief editor, representative director and editor-in-chief and efficiently controlled the entire company during the difficult days of the war. After World War II resigned to found Nichibei Tsushin (Japan-America News Agency), of which he was president.
