Murray Emanuel Polakoff

Murray E. Polakoff was born on December 18, 1922, in Brooklyn, New York, United States. He is a son of Joseph and Elizabeth (Zimmerman) Polakoff.

Education

Murray E. Polakoff studied at New York University where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1946. He also attended Columbia University and received a Master of Arts degree there in 1951 and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in 1955.

Career

Murray E. Polakoff started his career as an assistant professor at the University of Texas at Austin in 1951. In 1957 he was promoted to an associate professor of economics and held this post until 1961. He worked as a professor of economics and finance at the University of Rochester from 1961 to 1963. In 1968, he took a post of a professor of economics at New York University and also became a vice-dean of the Graduate School of Business Administration.

Polakoff left New York University in 1971 and became a leading professor and dean of the School of Management at the State University of New York at Binghamton. In 1977, he started to work as a professor of economics and finance at the University of Maryland. He also worked there as a provost of the university until 1986, when he became dean. He held this post until 1991 and served as a director of international development and conflict management for one year. In 1993, Murray E. Polakoff became professor emeritus.

Murray E. Polakoff wrote his book Financial Institutions and Markets in 1970. He was a contributor to professional journals devoted to economics and finance. Polakoff also worked as a consultant to the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Department of State.
