Narendra Mohan Basu graduated from Calcutta University in 1913.
In 1914-1947 Narendra Mohan Basu held the position of professor and head of Physiology Department at Presidency College in Calcutta. He was a director of Kamalalaya Stores Private Ltd., Kamatataya Export Private Ltd., Hindusthan Rubber Works.
Basu devised the following apparatus: Neon-lamp Stimulator, Vessel Perfusion Apparatus, Animal and Human Chronaximeter, Regulator of Heart Perfusion. Moreover he was the author of more than 50 articles and research papers.
