Nikolai Nikolaevich studied at the Nizhny Novgorod art studio, the Moscow Free Academy. His teachers were A.E. Arkhipova and P.F. Parkhomenko (1922-1924).
Since 1924 Nikolai Nikolaevich was engaged in design activity. He worked in the theaters of Yuzovka, Kazan, Simferopol, Voronezh (1928-1929). Designed performances: "Armored train 14-69" by Vsevolod Ivanov, "Servant of two masters" by Carlo Goldoni, "Black ghetto" by Eugene O'neill, "Engineer Merz" by Lev Nikulin, "Altai Robinsons" by Nikolai Shestakov and others.
Later he worked in Samara, Saratov, Smolensk and other cities. Nikolai Nikolaevich was a chief artist of Yaroslavl (1945-54), Stalingrad (Volgograd, 1957-1967) drama theaters. In his life he designed about 450 performances.
