In 1970 Nikolai Timofeevich graduated from The University of Latvia. He studied in graduate school at the Faculty of Romano-Germanic Philology of Voronezh State University (1972-1974).
Nikolai Timofeevich was an assistant in the Department of Literature of the Voronezh State Pedagogical Institute (1974-1977). He was a senior lecturer, docent, professor of the Department of Russian and Foreign Literature of the Kuibyshev State University (now Samara State University) (since 1977). Director of the Institute of Culture of the German Language at the Samara Humanitarian Academy (since 1999). Head of the artistic language research group at the Volga Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Samara, since 2003).
