In 1911, Nikolay Pavlovich Makarov graduated from the economics department of the law faculty of Moscow University. In 1920-1924 he studied the economics of agricultural production in the United States.
After completing an assistant in Moscow University, he left the university in protest against the policy of the Minister of Education L.А. Casso. In 1911-1914 Nikolay Pavlovich served in the army and worked in the statistical and economic bureau of the Moscow district. He was a head of the Department of Political Economy and Statistics of Voronezh Agricultural Institute in 1914-1918. From 1918 Nikolay Pavlovich worked at Moscow State University, the Higher Cooperative Institute in Moscow. Since 1924 Professor of Moscow Agricultural Academy named after K.A. Timiryazev.
Nikolay Pavlovich worked as an agronomist at state farms and at a machine-tractor station in Ukraine (1935-1947). Since 1948, Professor of Voroshilovgrad Agricultural Institute. In 1955-1975, professor at the All-Union Agricultural Institute of Correspondence Education.
The author of the books: "The Organization of Socialist Agricultural Enterprises" (Moscow, 1963), "The Economic Foundations of Organization of Production on Collective and State Farms" (Moscow, 1966), "Industrialization of Agriculture" (Moscow, 1976) and others.
