Pavel Karpenko in 1923 graduated from the Faculty of Agronomy Voronezh Agricultural Institute.
After graduation in 1918 Pavel Karpenko worked as a researcher at the Department of Private Agriculture (plant growing), as a researcher and analyst at the Department of Chemistry (1919-1920), as a researcher and laboratory assistant at the Department of General Agriculture (1920-1921) of the Voronezh Agricultural Institute.
Since 1921 he was specialist in sugar beet breeding at the Ramon breeding and experimental station, scientific director, director of the Pervomaisky breeding and experimental station in Krasnodar Region (1925-1932). In 1932 was a scientific leader of the selection group of the Central Research Institute of the Sugar Industry in Moscow. Since 1933 was a professor, head of the Technical Crops Department of the Voronezh Agricultural Institute. In 1942-1943 he was in evacuation in the Altai Territory. He worked part-time as Head of the Department of Soil Science with the Basics of Agriculture and Plant Growing and was head of the Department of Soil Science and Geology of the Voronezh Forestry Institute since 1946.
Research interests: biology, selection, technology of sugar beet cultivation, seed farming.
