Nikolay Vasilyevich Penkov graduated from Mining and Metallurgical College in Lipetsk (1953). In 1958-1959 lived in Voronezh: studied at the Voronezh Institute of Civil Engineering, participated in Amateur performances, worked at the Voronezh regional radio. He also graduated from the School-studio of The Moscow Art Theater (1963, Monyukov's course).
Since 1963 he has been an actor of the Moscow Art Theater. He was the author of the script, director and performer of the solo performance of "Rose of Jericho" by Ivan Bunin (1984). Acted in films. Penkov starred in about 40 films, such as "Life is in your Hands" (1959), "Shield and sword" (1968), "Eternal call" (1973-1983), "For the Rest of your Life" (1975),"From the life of Potapov" (1986), "Romanov. Crowned family" (2000), "In the First Circle" (2006) and others.
