She was born in a family of land-hungry peasants. Her father, Mikhail Adamavich, was a qualified joiner, built mills, repaired bridges and threshing machines. Her mother, Antanina Syamenauna, engaged in peasant work.

N. Taras received primary education in the local Polish school.Then she studied at the Navagrudak (1930-1934) and the Vilnia (1934-1936) Belarusian Gymnasiums.
After graduating from gymnasium (1936) she lived in Vilnia. She wrote poems and prepared to enter the university. She was closely connected with the revolutionary underground organization. After the mass arrests in Vilnia, she returned to her
parents in the village. In 1938 she moved to Lida, where she met the coming of the Red Army. She worked in the editorial office of the regional newspaper «Uperad» ("Forth"). She was chosen a deputy of Lida City Council.At the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, she lived with her father in the village Zapolle,when she returned ti Lida. In 1943-1944 she was a liaison officer of guerrilla band of Katouski and the brigade of Dyarzhinski. In 1944-45 she was a contributor of the newspaper «Uperad». In the spring of 1945 in Minsk, she worked as an editor at State Publishing of the BSSR. And in 1947 she entered in the distant education of the Belarusian State University.But she quickly left the study for family reason. Since
1951, she was a literary worker in the «Piyaner Belarusi» («The Pioneer of Belarus") newspaper. In 1953-1954 she was a literary consultant of the «Zvyazda» ("The star") newspaper. She graduated the Higher Literary Courses in Moscow in 1957. She was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War of the second degree, Diplomas of the Supreme Soviet of the Belarusian Soviet Socialist Republic, and of the Supreme Soviet of the Lithuanian Soviet Socialist Republic, and medals.
The first poem of N. Taras was «Tudy, Tudy Dusha Uzletae ...» («There, There, the Soul Flies Up») and «Zvini, Maya Pes’nya...» ("Ring me Song..."). They were published in 1936 in the «Nasha Volya» ("Our Will") newspaper in Vilnia. She published over 200 books of poetry. The main idea of her creativity is the belief in life and in a better future.There was also a children's book «Skazki pra Abavyazki»("Tales of duties") and «Nush Bor»("Our Forest"). She wrote poems which were related to themes of the war and the peace, happiness and love, the belief in the victory of good. The poetess characterized a delicate sense of the beauty of the nature, a feature of the Belarusian national culture. She translated from Polish, Ukrainian and Russian languages. N. Kuznyatsou, I. Sushko and others have written songs based on poems of N. Taras.
