Background
Tokiwai-no-Miya was born in 1303. He was the son of Emperor Kameyama, and originally named Prince Tsuneaki, he was conferred the princely title of Tokiwai-no-Miya, after the name of the palace (Tokiwai) which was given him by his father. The title remained with the family till the sixth generation.
