("A sublime story woven out of joy, beauty, strength, and ...)
"A sublime story woven out of joy, beauty, strength, and shimmer, like a painting by Renoir. Paintings are in this story, and so are New York and Philadelphia, and so are Virginia Woolf and Woodrow Wilson; and the Brahman philosopher of education, and Anzia Yezierska, an immigrant daughter of the Lower East Side; imagine these two embracing for love, for learning (as they really did) strands of Whitman's America entangled in scenes from A Midsummer Night's Dream! Norma Rosen is an artist of the educated heart; and of language, light hope, wonder, and honest becoming". -- Cynthia OzickNorma Rosen's tale of the year-long love affair between the poor, ambitious writer Anzia Yezierska and the brilliant "commonsense philosopher" John Dewey is based on a true story.

(In Touching Evil, Norma Rosen has created a compelling no...)
In Touching Evil, Norma Rosen has created a compelling novel that leads Christians and Jews alike to an examination of the nature of evil and its effects on the lives of people of good will. The narrative is comprised of a series of letters, diary entries, an autobiographical manuscript, and interoir reflections. Protagonist Jean Lamb writes to her absent lover, desribing her activities and those of her pregnant friend, Hattie, during the daily televising of the Eichmann trial. Hattie, acting both as Jean's foil and as her double, becomes a transmitter of Holocaust knowledge to the next generation. these non-Jewish, psychological survivors absorb the meaning of the Holocaust not in the context of Jewish history, but in their own lives as a cipher of the human condition.

(Rosen gives a new voice to more than a dozen women of the...)
Rosen gives a new voice to more than a dozen women of the Bible. She imagines and writes the missing chapters of these women’s lives in a witty and engaging collection of stories. In addition, she introduces the book with a lively essay about classical Midrash, its relationship to fiction and the imagination, and the possibilities for new midrashim written for and about women.
