After graduating from Waseda University Oguro Toyoshi studied the art of scenario writing at Shochiku Film Company, but turned film critic and edited two magazines Eiga Sekai (Movie World) and Eiga-no-Tono (Friend of Movie).
After the end of World War II was appointed chief editor of Eiga Sekaisha.
