In 1987 he graduated from secondary school № 28 with physical and mathematical bias in Zaporozhye. He graduated from the state technical University in 1993 with a degree in rocket science with qualification mechanical engineer.
In the period from 1987 to 1991 he worked as a tester of cables and special equipment, a locksmith-tester of products in NPO Energia (now RSC Name "energy" S. P. Korolev). From 1991 to 1993 - in the project Department as a technique.
From 1993 to 1996-engineer in the design Department for the development of cargo and transport ships. From 1996 to 1997 in the Department for the development and operation of ground equipment in NPO "Energy".
In July 1997 by the decision of The state interdepartmental Commission he was selected to the cosmonaut detachment of RSC Energia». In the period from December 1997 to November 1999 he passed a course of General space training at GCTC Gagarin. In December 1999 he was qualified as a test cosmonaut.
He has 1 St grade in parachute sport, he made more than 300 parachute jumps.
From January 2000 he passed training as a member of the test cosmonaut group for flights to the ISS. In December 2002, he was appointed flight engineer of the backup crew of the 6-th Russian expeditions visit the ISS (ISS-ЭП6). However, after the disaster the Columbia Shuttle crew was disbanded due to the cancellation of the Russian visiting crew.
From April 2007 to April 2008 he was trained as a backup crew member of ISS-17 as a flight engineer of Soyuz TMA TPK and ISS flight engineer. From September 2015 to March 2016 he was trained in the ISS – 47/48 Prime crew as Soyuz TMA-20M flight engineer and ISS flight engineer.
08 October 2010 - March 16, 2011 as a flight engineer TPK "Soyuz TMA-01M" and the ISS-25/26 together with cosmonaut Alexander Kaleri and astronaut S. Kelly. During the flight he performed three spacewalks with a total duration of 16 hours 39 minutes.

19 March – 7 September 2016 as a flight engineer TPK "Soyuz TMA-20M" and flight engineer of ISS-47/48.
