Omi Takeda was the first person to begin the manufacture of sand watch in Edo. He then shifted his talents to the making of puppets, and is said to have presented the Emperor with one of his dolls.
Omi Takeda founded the first puppet theater at Dotombori, Osaka in 1662. His theater named Takeda Shibai was a great success and it continued to entertain people for some eight generations.
The Takeda family was later divided into two: each one heading a different puppet show. He died in Osaka.
