Smith, Oramandal was born on December 2, 1842 in in Aroostook Company, Maine, United States. Son of Daniel Day and Lucy (Williams) Smith.

Education

Educated Litchfield Academy and Waterville Classical Institute.

Career

Principal schools, Litchfield, and Richmond, 1864-1877. In charge of schools of Litchfield, 1863-1876. Member Maine House of Representatives, 1870.

Reëlected, 1896, but resigned. Assistant clerk House of Representatives, 1874, 1875, clerk, 1876, 1877, 1878, and 1880-1885. State insurance commissioner, 1883-1885.

Secretary of state, 1885-1891 (3 terms). Member Executive Council, 1891-1902. Private secretary to Governor Llewellyn Powers, 1897-1901.

State treasurer, 1901-1907 (3 terms).
