An early trader with foreign countries. Magistrate of Chinzei (Kyushu). Governor of Buzen Province (Oita Prefecture). His early name was Chikayasu, which he changed into Yoshinori when Shogun Yoshizumi Ashikaga granted part of his name (yoshi). He became powerful after a series of campaigns he conducted in his neighboring provinces (Bungo, Chikuzen and Higo ) and amassed a huge fortune through commerce with foreign countries. He attacked Chikatada Hoshino at his castle (1528) but was defeated. He then appealed to the Shogunate for help and, with the assistance of the Ouc-hi, Shimazu and Kikuchi families in Kyushu, forced Chikatada to seek peace. He was killed when trouble arose in his family as to who should be his heir.
Yoshiaki was a son of Ôtomo Yoshinaga and was married to a daughter of Ôuchi Yoshioki.
