When Emperor Jimmu came to the district in his expedition eastward, he and his elder brother, Eshiki, resisted the Imperial forces. The Emperor sent Yatagarasu, or Heavenly Crow, to the brothers to punish them. Otoshiki pledged loyalty to the Emperor but Eshiki did not and was killed by the Emperor's troops.
