In 1930 Pavel studied at Minsk Military Infantry School.
From 1930 he studied at courses at the Frunze Military Academy.
After the graduation of rabfak, Pavel worked at various Komsomol positions.
In 1925-1938, he served in the Red Army.
In June 1941, Zhdanov was again drafted into the army and sent to the front of the Great Patriotic War. In 1942 he graduated from the course "Shot".
By July 1943, Lieutenant-Colonel Pavel Zhdanov commanded the 310th Infantry Regiment of the 8th Infantry Division of the 13th Army of the Central Front.
For the period from July 23 to September 27, 1943, Zhdanov's regiment fought more than three hundred kilometers. In the area of the city Korop of the Chernihiv region, the regiment successfully crossed the Desna and then crossed the Dnieper and Pripyat to the north of Kiev. In all the forcing operations, Zhdanov's regiment successfully captured and expanded bridgeheads on the western shores.
After the war, Zhdanov was retired. Lived in village Zelva, Grodno region, Belarus.
He died on August 30, 1986.
By the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR’s Decree, October 16, 1943, Colonel Pavel Zhdanov was awarded Hero of the Soviet Union title “for exemplary fulfillment of combat missions of the command at the front in the struggle against the German invaders and courage and heroism shown at that time” and received the Gold Star and Order of Lenin.
On July 2, 2004, the memorial plaque was set at the house No. 10 on Victory Street, where he lived from 1980 to 1986.
