Background
Mauricio Magdaleno was born on May 13, 1906, in Villa del Refugio (now Tabasco). He was the son of Vicente Magdaleno Redin and María Cardona. The turmoil and chaos of the Mexican Revolution in the early 1900s are among the first memories of Mauricio Magdaleno. By the time Mauricio was fourteen, his family had twice been uprooted by the danger and threat of the revolution. The family moved to Aguascalientes, Mexico at the outbreak of the Mexican revolution. The revolution later drove them to move to Mexico City in 1920. Mauricio’s father was acquainted with the rector of the university and asked him to allow Mauricio to enter the university preparatory school.
