Began career as part-time prospector. Assistant man. Mulga Downs Sheep Station 1927, Manager 1934. Discovered signs of blue asbestos in Wittenoon Gorge and began to develop asbestos industry in Western Australia 1936.
Later extended mining activity to gold, tantalite, vanadium, tin, white asbestos and manganese in partnership with E. A. Wright. Assistant Manager Australian Blue Asbestos Ltd. 1943-1948; with E. A. Wright joined Izzy Walters in partnership at Whim Creek 1950: discovered iron-ore in the Pilbara 1952.
With Wright negotiated Hanwright Iron Ore Agreement with State Government 1967 and was subsequently involved in negotiation and renegotiation and exploration in the Pilbara. Established National Miner newspaper and f. Westralian Secessionist Movement 1974.
Began extensive coal exploration in Hunter Valley, N.S.W. 1977. Latterly involved in prospecting for steaming coal in Queensland and oil and gas exploration through Coho Australia Ltd. Director several cos.: Honorary degree (Hillsdale College, United States of America).
