In 1968, Brutoco graduated with honors from Santa Clara University with a degree in Economics and Philosophy. He went on to receive a Juris Doctorate, Order of the Coif, from University of California, Los Angeles School of Law in 1971.

Brutoco serves as a Board Member for the Men's Wearhouse, and on the Audit and Governance Committees of the Board. He is also a regular keynote speaker for conferences and gatherings focused on sustainability in business and investing. Brutoco was recognized in the Congressional Record for his service in business on November 16, 2010.
Since 1992, Brutoco has served on the board of the Men"s Wearhouse, a $2.5 billion market capitalization men’s clothing company.
As an entrepreneur, Brutoco has started and run several business. In past years, Brutoco co-founded and was the Chief Operating Officer of Channel 100, the first company in the world to offer pay cable television services.
In 1987, Brutoco founded the World Business Academy, a nonprofit business network and think tank which seeks to elevate the consciousness of people involved in business to match their power and influence with a corresponding level of care and responsibility for the environment and for humanity as a whole. Brutoco was Chair of the Evolutionary Leaders Administrative Circle, part of the Evolutionary Leaders organization.
Brutoco has served on boards of directors and advisory boards of several non-profits, including The Gorbachev Foundation, Institute of Transpersonal Psychology, State of the World Forum (Company-founded with Jim Garrison), the Omega Point Institute, The National Peace Academy, and the Brutoco Family Foundation.
