Background
She was born in Brighton, England.
(By Pond and River by Arabella Buckley, first published in...)
By Pond and River by Arabella Buckley, first published in 1907. Through life stories of frogs, dragon-flies, fish, water-bugs, water birds, otters, and voles, children's interest in water creatures is awakened. An exhibit of water plants at a flower show concludes the volume. Seven color illustrations and numerous black and white drawings complement the text. The book is intended to interest children in country life. They are written in the simplest language, so as to be fit for each class to read aloud. But the information given in them requires explanation and illustration by the teacher. I have, in fact, tried to make each lesson the groundwork for oral teaching, in the course of which the children should be en- couraged to observe, to bring in specimens, and to ask questions. Then when the chapter is read and re-read, as is the case with most school books, it will become part of the child's own knowledge.

(The Fairy-Land of Science, by author Arabella B. Buckley,...)
The Fairy-Land of Science, by author Arabella B. Buckley, is a somewhat bold promise, seeing that most readers probably look upon science as a bundle of dry facts, while fairy-land is all that is beautiful, and full of poetry and imagination. The author thoroughly believes, and hopes to prove to you, that science is full of beautiful pictures, of real poetry, and of wonder-working fairies; and more, promises you they shall be true fairies, whom you will love just as much when you are old and grayheaded as when you are young; for you will be able to call them up whenever you wander by land or by sea, through meadow or through wood, through water or through air; and though they themselves will always remain invisible, you will see their wonderful poet at work everywhere around you.

(1 Audio CD - 43 Minutes. Wild Life in Woods and Fields, f...)
1 Audio CD - 43 Minutes. Wild Life in Woods and Fields, first book in the science series by science educator Arabella B. Buckley, is a collection of stories that will encourage children to become little naturalists and explore the majesty of the great outdoors. Stories include: Spiders on the Common, The Woodpecker's Nest, The Skylark and Her Enemy, A Family of Squirrels, The Greedy Stranger, and many more. The stories are taught in such a charming, delightful way that children will learn without even realizing it! Our CDs are packaged in premium DVD cases with CD labeling printed right on the CD in full color. We do not use paper stick-on labels, these tend to peel off over time and can really jam up car CD players and computers. We chose to use DVD cases for our CD sets, as we have found they hold up better in shipping and in regular usage than the typical CD jewel case. Please note: All recordings we offer on CD are produced with recordings from Librivox, public domain works recorded by volunteers. We at St. Clare Audio would like to thank the volunteers for their gift of offering their work to the public domain. St. Clare Audio's niche is providing them in ready-to-purchase CD sets, for those who cannot download, or have not the desire or time to do so, as well as the benefit of a nice case and professionally produced CDs. Wild Life in Woods and Fields is read by Laura Caldwell.

When the dreary days of winter and the early damp days of spring are passing away, and the warm bright sunshine has begun to pour down upon the grassy paths of the wood, who does not love to go out and bring home posies of violets, and bluebells, and primroses? We wander from one plant to another picking a flower here and a bud there, as they nestle among the green leaves, and we make our rooms sweet and gay with the tender and lovely blossoms. But tell me, did you ever stop to think, as you added flower after flower to your nosegay, how the plants which bear them have been building up their green leaves and their fragile buds during the last few weeks?
