He was a younger brother of Friederike Sophie, Frederick II and Louisa Ulrika. Augustus was a general in the Silesian Wars, and distinguished himself in the Battle of Hohenfriedberg. This conflict between the two brothers led to a correspondence, which was published in 1769.
