Bernard Werber is a French science fiction writer active since the 1990s. He is mostly recognized for having written the trilogy of "Les Fourmis", his only book translated into English.
Background
Bernard Werber was born in Toulouse in 1961 in the Jewish family. The childhood of future writer passed quietly, in 5 years Bernard showed a particular interest to drawing. His hobby was noticed by the teacher who even provided to the child special conditions of training — Bernard could be engaged freely in drawing while the others studied.
Education
In lyceum teacher in 1966 noticed at him talent for drawing and for him was made a special education programme. In 1968 he wrote the first story "Adventure of a flea". In study, Bernard showed himself as a mediocre student, he couldn't remember dates, events, names of the capitals.In 1969 wrote the second story "Magic castle" and he started learn to play the piano. In 1978 he joined editorial office of the litseum newspaper "Eyforiya".
Career
At seven-year age Bernard wrote the first work — the story on a free subject «Adventure of a flea». In it on behalf of the flea it was told about her travel on a jungle of a human body. During the same time future writer doesn't show special successes in school, except lessons of the French literature. Especially difficult he manages to remember figures, formulas and texts by heart.
In eight years Bernard writes the second story "Magic castle". Secret of one lock which devours visitors. The young writer opens for itself a new genre and independently learns to create a fascinating plot. At insistance of mother he learns to play a piano. Bernard continues to write, opening for itself new sides. Out of school he studies that it really interests: electronics, model aircrafts, civilization of Indians of the Maya and inhabitants of Easter Island. Passion to astronomy and, in particular, systematic studying of solar spots in the Astronomical Center of Toulouse. Reads much, especially occupied it «The mysterious island» Jules Verna who was represented by an incomparable masterpiece.
In 1978, graduated from lyceum, began to write "The Ants". Idea was to continue the seven-page scenario for the comic strip which was created together with the colleague on edition. Entered the Toulouse university where planned to study law. Study at university initially didn't develop, the first filled-up session became a consequence of that.
In 1980 attends courses at Institute of criminology of Toulouse. Often goes on meetings of district court and a jury of Toulouse to find there subjects for the detective stories. In the same 1980 travels across the USA, from New York to L.A.
In 1982 Bernard Werber throws the law and moves to Paris.Then 7 years without special success worked in the magazine Nuvel an observater. After collision with the top manager he was dismissed.
Now he is the best-known writer of France. According to many critics, already now it is possible to put his name in one row with great writers of the XX century.
At present Bernard Werber the convinced bachelor. About the relations with women speaks so: «Love — it is difficult. Even the love for God created many problems. There should be simpler relations. The friendship can last the whole life, and love certainly. With my female friends I communicate for 20 years, and with mistresses — pair of meetings and all. Nevertheless I endure the love relations more emotionally. But when all comes to an end, someone from us becomes unfortunate. Whereas in friendship both parties are happy, and it for a long time. I know the friends well. That I can not often tell about the beloved. Therefore I do not cease to repeat that the friendship is much stronger than love. And this more honest feeling.»
