1893 graduate Saint St. Petersburg University.
1906 defended doctor’s thesis on the internal friction of ice, in which he formulated the theory of the movement of ice in an inclined bed. Also did research on the movement of Arctic ice and on the physical and mech properties of ice in general. 1909-1924 professor, Tomsk Tcchnol Institute.
1909-1914 organized 23 expeditions to study magnetic phenomena. From 1924 director, then fellow, Main Geophysical Observatory, Leningrad. 1927 designed an instrument to measure the intensity of a magnetic field and devised methods of observing and compiling data on the Earth’s magnetic field
From 1927 supervised the organisation of solar research in the Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics. 1931 developed engineering principles of solar-powered equipment. Designed solar steam boilers, water desalination equipment, et cetera
Together with his son V. B. Veynbcrg, designed an efficient solar-powered motor.
