Dmitry attended teacher's training college in Mstislav, but ended up graduating from Belarus State University.
Dmitry Astapenlo made his debut in 1926 writing poems. He was at the forefront of the Belarusian science fiction, the author of the sci-fi novel "The liberation forces" (1932). The protagonist of the novel reveals the "secret of the atom" and with the help of his discovery wants to destroy the old world.
Translated from Russian into Belarusian the novels: "Mother" by Gorky (1932), "Outskirts" by L. Pervomaisky (1931, together with M. Ledum), a story "Snowstorm" by Golubeva (1930) and the works of other Russian and Ukrainian writers.
