He was educated at King Edward VII School (photo) in Sheffield, where he was Head Prefect in 1938/1940, Captain of cricket for 2 years and 1st XI football player for 4. And The Queen"s College, Oxford, where he obtained a First in Chemistry, followed by a Doctorate.Phil as a Junior Research Fellow at Merton, working with Jack Linnett.
Career
1940-1945 Joined the Royal Artillery as Bombardier. Captured at the fall of Singapore, prisoner-of-war interned in Malaya. 1946 Returned to Oxford as undergraduate
1948 Junior Research Fellow at Merton
1950 Lectureship in Chemistry at University of Leeds
1957 Monsanto in Zurich
1966 Visiting Professor at Tucson
1967 Lectureship in Physical Chemistry.
Elected to a Fellowship at Queens" College, Cambridge.
