Graduated from an art school in Kiev, 1909.
Entered the film industry, 1910, as a cameraman. During World War I, war cameraman. Filmed the events of the February and October Revolutions, and later his material appeared in the film Oktiabr’skii Perevorot.
Shot several important documentary films, such as Ukrainskoe Dvizhenie, 1917, and Rospusk Uchreditel’nogo Sobraniia, 1918. In April 1918, made the first full-length Soviet documentary Film, Razoruzhenie Anarkhistov. Cameraman during the Civil War, worked from the agit-train called the October Revolution.
